30 months
I find it hard to believe that Sophia is now 2.5 years old. It seems just like yesterday that we brought her home from the hospital. Now, she sings, laughs, and argues with me. And realizing that 2.5 years from now, she will be starting kindergarten is plain shocking. Time just zooms by.
Sophia really enjoys books and would happily flip through books on her own. She also likes having us read to her. She is intrigued by identity, I think, because she repeatedly asks, “Who’s that?” and points to the characters in the book. She is not satisfied with answers like “He is the mailman.” and would follow it up with “What’s his name?”. I have to give the character a name before she will move on to the next one. It’s really funny listening to us during story time because you would hear the question “Who’s that?” many, many times before we are done with the book.
It’s tough to get things past her, as she has a very good memory and is a logical thinker that she would put two and two together and figure out that “that is not right, mommy”. Two words in her vocabulary that amuses me are “save” (because I want her to be a saver) and “puffer” (sadly, she has developed asthma). When she is in a good mood, she tries to make us laugh with funny antics and then she would laugh at herself and say, “Silly Sophia”. When she doesn’t get what she wants, she wags her finger at us and says angrily, “You not listening!”. When she is upset, she soothes herself by sucking her thumb, hugging her blankie, and asking me to carry her.
She is starting to say “I love you” a lot more, although, sometimes it still feels like I am begging her to say it to me. She is more generous with her puppy stuffy, Bobby, and her blankie. Yes, she says “I love you” to her blankie more readily than she says it to me! She also says “I’m sorry” now without us having to instruct her. She has also gotten tall enough to be able to open the doors in our house by herself.
Starting the long weekend in February, we went diaper free (except during nap and at night). She has done extremely well, mainly, I think because she has been ready for a while. It was me who was not ready to deal with public toilets so I didn’t really push for it until after our Caribbean trip. She had one accident a day for the first week but had only one accident the second week. We are so proud of her!
I am finding this stage a really fun and interesting one. Her ability to talk and communicate has opened up a whole new world for all of us. It’s so cute how she corrects me when I call her a baby and she says, “No mommy, I am not a baby. I am a big girl.” Indeed, she is a big girl now.
